Healthcare: Affordable Care Act issues 

New to INVESTOhio this year is the addition of expert panels discussing critical business issues important to companies, investors and to the state.  This moderated panel of industry analysts and industry executives will explore key healthcare issues and trends.

We expect these will be fast-paced, interactive sessions that will explore issues in context and supplement the day’s corporate presentations.

Attendees can receive CFA and CPA professional continuing education credit for attending, but registration is mandatory.  Be sure to provide the name of the session you wish to attend (Energy or Healthcare), your affiliation (CFA or CPA) and your membership number when you register. 

Presenter - Igor Golalic, CFA, Healthcare Analyst, Diamond Hill

Igor currently serves as a Sector Leader and Research Analyst for Diamond Hill Capital Management, Inc.  He joined Diamond Hill in 2008.  From 2003 to 2008, Igor was a Portfolio Manager and Senior Equity Analyst with Federated Investors.  From 1999 to 2003, Igor was a Senior Equity Analyst with the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio.  Igor has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Philosophy from Lewis & Clark College, a Master of Business Administration from The Ohio State University and holds the CFA designation. 

Presenter - Clay B. Marsh, MD, Senior Associate VP and Chief Innovation Officer, IDEA Studio; Vice Dean, Office of Health Sciences and Wexner Medical Center

Clay Marsh, MD is Executive Director of the IDEA Studio and Chief Innovation Officer of the OSU Wexner Medical Center. He is also Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Marsh is cross-appointed in five basic science departments and graduate programs. He has mentored over 50 MD, MD/PHD and PhD doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers and junior faculty. He has published over 130 papers in peer-reviewed journals and is a national leader in personalized/P4 medicine and pulmonary and critical care medicine.

Dr. Marsh is an NIH funded researcher and his laboratory focuses on understanding the deep biology underlying human health and disease. Areas of focus in his laboratory include epigenetic regulation of tissue repair and remodeling; tissue microenvironment and the role of exosomes as a novel inter-cellular communication system to regulate immune homeostasis. Areas of focus include pulmonary fibrosis, macrophage biology, and aging.

Dr. Marsh has served on a number of national committees and leadership groups, including the board of directors for the Personalized Medicine Coalition and the Research Advisory Group of the American Thoracic Society where he currently serves on the Scientific Advisory Group.  Dr Marsh is the former director of the scientific board and past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Stanley Sarnoff Foundation for Cardiovascular Medicine. Dr. Marsh is also an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and regularly serves on NIH study sections.

Presenter - MODERATOR - Rick Clemens, President, Hawk100

Richard Clemens, CFA CPA, is President of Hawk100, a Dublin, Ohio independent registered investment advisor.

Before he founded Hawk100 in 2004. Richard held principal, executive and management roles for multiple investment advisers, mutual funds, and financial service firms.

Richard holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter and is licensed in Ohio as a CPA, Investment Adviser Representative and Life and Health Insurance Agent. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting with University Honors from The Ohio State University.

He maintains membership with CFA Institute, CFA Society of Columbus, AICPA Personal Financial Planning section, and Ohio Society of CPAs.  Richard has served the investment profession as CFA Institute Presidents Council Representative and CFA Society of Columbus President and Board Chair. 

Presenter - Chris Sears, Partner, Ice Miller LLP

Chris Sears is a Partner with Ice Miller, LLP, He concentrates his practice in the field of health care and employee benefits. Sears assists clients in designing and maintaining health and retirement plans and other employee benefits. He also works with clients in their efforts to protect the privacy of health information pursuant to HIPAA and to share information through regional health information networks.

He works with public and private employees including hospitals and other tax-exempt organizations. Sears helps clients design employer-sponsored health plans and other benefits such as cafeteria plans, tuition reimbursement plans, long and short term disability plans, health reimbursement accounts, health savings accounts, and life insurance plans. He also helps them comply with myriad of laws that regulate these plans such as ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, HIPAA, ADA, FMLA and COBRA.

Sears also concentrates on laws regulating the privacy of health information. In particular, he works closely with both health plans and health care providers in their efforts to comply with the complex privacy rules of HIPAA, as well as state privacy laws. He works closely with the nationally-known regional health information sharing network, the Indianapolis Network for Patient Care, and other cross-institutional health data sharing networks. He has served as a technical advisor to the Steering Committee for the National Project of Best Practices for State-Level Regional Health Information Organizations, conducted by the AHIMA Foundation. In addition, he chaired the legal task force of Indiana's Health Information Security Privacy Collaboration, funded by the National Governors Association. Most recently, Sears served on the Data Use and Reciprocal Support Agreement Team for the National Health Information Network since 2007.
